The Mario Kart 8 Deluxe “chat” is very limited, and for a good reason. These limitations, however, make it very difficult to say anything else.
Here are two options to talk to your friends without using social media:
- Make Miis that have names that such as “sorry” or “my bad” or “join me!” and switch to play as them because your name will change to the Mii’s (however your username won’t change).
- Change your username! This is easier than the option above. Go to your page (the icon in the top left corner) and select profile. This will give you the options to quickly change your username. You get ten characters, which means you will mostly have to use texting shortcuts. Some people may find this method strange, so don’t overdue it. If you change your username while the Miis are still standing on the earth, then your new username will be shown in the racer list before the race. If you change your username after this, the name won’t be shown until after the race. (Caution: If you take too much time to execute a username change during a race, you might disconnect for not moving).
Do not put insulting or inappropriate words in your username!
Do not share contact personal or contact information unless you want everybody in the room to know.
